Classes

Three ways into the same practice.

Hatha in the hall and on Zoom; meditation, breathing and relaxation; and ashtanga. Suitable for all ages and abilities.

01

Hatha

“Movement is the song of the body. Yoga is an effortless dance with breath and gravity.”
Vanda Scaravelli

This is a deeply restful and challenging class during which we explore a variety of yoga poses to improve strength and flexibility, and breathing techniques to restore the body and calm the mind. Basic meditation techniques, yoga Nidra and mindfulness techniques are enormously relaxing and help to reduce stress. These simple techniques taught in class can then be used in simple ways to improve everyday life. These classes are suitable for all ages and abilities.

02

Meditation, breathing and relaxation

“Life can be found only in the present moment. The past is gone, the future is not yet here, and if we do not go back to ourselves in the present moment, we cannot be in touch with life.”
Thich Nhat Hanh

Simple breathing and techniques for meditation are taught in this relaxing class.

Tuesdays · Zoom only

03

Ashtanga

“Everyone can do Ashtanga. Except lazy people.”
Sharath Jois

Ashtanga yoga is a dynamic, flowing and energising form of yoga, where postures are linked in a sequence in coordination with deep breathing. Regular practice of Ashtanga yoga increases flexiblity and strength, purifies the body, calms and focuses the mind and promotes general welbeing.

About Sophie

Sophie has been teaching yoga classes in Sussex since 2000.

Sophie thinks yoga is the answer to just about all of life's most important questions and never underestimates the grounding it provides to allow her to fully see life in all its light. She is forever grateful for the strength and clarity that yoga can provide at times when life is challenging.

She lived in India over a 3 year period where she taught daily classes at the Purple Valley yoga centre and assisted on their teacher-training courses. In India she was lucky enough to attend workshops taught by many of the most well-known yoga teachers from many different yoga schools. She now lives in Ditchling, Sussex with her husband and 4 children where she teaches regular classes and workshops.

Sophie also holds a BA (hons) in education and P.E. Before having her own children, she worked as a primary school teacher and with children with special needs, trained in bodywork including Thai yoga massage and also trained with Janet Balaskas in pregnancy yoga.

“I practise yoga daily because it makes me feel happy and relaxed. Yoga allows me to know myself better and has given me the strength and grounding to carry and raise four children.”
“My wish is to provide creative, enjoyable yoga classes which encourage students to breathe deeply, strengthen the body and relax the mind, helping their bodies to become healthy and their minds to feel relaxed and inspired.”
Sophie Mills

“A single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path we walk the path again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over an over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives.”
~ Thoreau

Students

In their words.

“I really enjoy yoga with Sophie. She manages all sorts of abilities and ages within each class, breaking down each movement so that everyone can achieve something. I always feel better, more relaxed and positive at the end of the sessions even if it's been a struggle to get there. I have been amazed at some of the things I have done which I didn't think possible, so all in all I'd really recommend Sophie's classes to anyone, experienced or beginner.”
Tae
“Sophie's Mysore Classes are extraordinary! She attends to each practitioner with deep knowledge and clarity of intuition, helping each at their own pace. Kindness and laughter drift through the space and lift everyone into the lightness of being whilst working into the depth of the soul through posture and breathing. Highly recommended for any serious practitioner of yoga who wishes to explore and go deeper.”
Kirsten · yoga teacher, East Grinstead
“I've been coming to Sophie's yoga classes for about 3 years. She is a sincere, fun, kind teacher and her depth of knowledge is inspiring. She is a supportive, encouraging teacher who knows the workings of my body better than me! I have benefited enormously from coming to her classes regularly. I leave feeling calm and invigorated. I would highly recommend her as a teacher.”
Rebecca · yoga teacher, Hurstpierpoint
“Sophie's classes are excellent. She is very professional, caring and helpful in her manner. Sophie encourages you to progress through the asanas so that your practice stays challenging. Sophie is also very good at offering options by having you move into a posture depending on your capabilities and I would highly recommend her as a teacher.”
Lyn · Pilates instructor, Sussex

About this preview

A one-page prototype, not a finished site.

This page was built in an afternoon from what is publicly on Sophie's existing site. It is a taste of a direction, not a finished site — the real build would be considerably more detailed and would carry her actual pages:

  • Home
  • About
  • Classes
  • Booking
  • Workshops
  • Retreats
  • Teacher Training
  • Shop
  • Contact

A full build would add:

  • her own photography in full
  • every class written out
  • live term booking and registration on her own timetable
  • SEO and analytics
  • the full price list
  • working contact and registration forms
  • a way to take payment that does not require publishing her bank details

Placeholders on this page, named honestly: the class slots in the booking section are illustrative; nothing on this page submits or collects any data; term dates are shown as "on request" because the dates on her current site are from 2025.
